Synex II vertebral replacement system

The Food and Drug Administration took action on September 19, 2009, to protect the American public and issued a Class I Recall of the Synex II vertebral replacement system distributed by Snythes. The Synex II was designed to improve the life of people with damaged or diseased vertebra and provide the support of a fully functional spinal column.

Unfortunately, a flaw in the design or manufacture of the Synex II causes it to collapse without warning, inflicting excruciating pain and suffering on the innocent victim. Aside from the unspeakable suffering caused by Synex II failure, a collapse of the device can cause serious injury such as:

  • Paralysis
  • Nerve Injury
  • Increased Pain
  • Spinal Compression Fracture
  • Failure of Additional Fixation

A Class I Recall is the highest safety precaution the FDA can issue. It means there is a significant and immediate threat to the health or safety of patients and requires immediate action. This recall affects every Synex II vertebral replacement system distributed between July 2, 2007, and September 9, 2009, WHETHER IT HAS FAILED OR NOT.

That means that people that haven’t experienced any trouble with the Synex II must contact their healthcare providers immediately in order to protect their health. The risk of Synex failure and injury is real and serious, and without prompt action people could suffer the catastrophe of spinal cord or nerve injury.

There have already been six reports of collapse and failure of the Synex II, and in the coming weeks or months that number will likely rise. Many of these people will likely need another operation to repair or replace the Synex, and anyone that has experienced back surgery understands it is a situation to avoid if at all possible.

After you contact your doctor and protect your health, you need to take the next step and contact a spinal injury attorney immediately. You probably have a lot of questions about what you can do to protect your legal rights, just as you have protected your health, and we may have the answers for you.
